Important Information:
This test measures beta-crosslaps (beta-CTx), the beta form of aspartic acid, which is released during breakdown of mature of type I collagen. Increased levels of serum beta-CTx might indicate increased bone reabsorption. This test may be useful in monitoring the effectiveness of certain osteoporosis medications or in diagnosing certain disorders associated with increased bone reabsorption. Assaying urine N-telopeptides may also help assess bone turnover in some patients.
