Important Information:
Iodine is an essential micronutrient and substrate in the production of thyroid hormone. As 90% of iodine excretion is urinary, measurement of urine iodine can serve as an indirect marker of iodine nutritional status. This test may also sometimes be useful in monitoring iodine replacement therapy or in interpreting results of a radioactive iodine uptake study.
