Notes
- The MGB Special Coagulation Integrated Lab Service receives batches of specimens at the following times:
- Monday through Friday:
- BWH – 10:30 AM, 11:45 AM, 1:15 PM, and 3:30 PM
- NWH/BWFH – 12 PM and 1:30 PM
- Salem – 5:45 PM (Thursdays only)
- HMA – 11:45 AM (Thursdays only, through BWH)
- Saturday and Sunday:
- BWH – 10:45 AM and 1:15 PM
- Monday through Friday:
- Platelet aggregation/secretion studies are performed at BWH. Advance notice to BWH is required by emailing bwhspecialcoag@partners.org.
- Pediatric samples can only be collected Monday through Friday from 8-10 AM and must be hand-delivered to MGH Special Coag Lab on Jackson 2 due to sample stability. Samples will be couriered to BWH immediately after receipt. No additional notification or arrangement of specimen transport is required. Testing requires 4 properly-filled blue top tubes at room temperature.
- Adult patients from MGH should be directed to BWH Outpatient Phlebotomy at 45 Francis Street before 12 PM Monday through Friday.
- Argatroban, bivalirudin, dabigatran, apixaban, or rivaroxaban anticoagulation interfere with some coagulation assays (see interferences link above).
- When multiple tests are ordered simultaneously, a maximum of 5 blue top tubes is typically sufficient for all tests. Please contact the lab at 617-724-2969 for minimum volume requirements PRIOR to drawing more than 5 tubes.
- Clotted, underfilled or overfilled specimens give unreliable results and will be refused.
