Description
The Special Coagulation Laboratory is in operation 7 days a week, 8 am to 4:00 pm, except for holidays, it is closed. When the laboratory is closed, specimens should be delivered to the Core Laboratory on Gray 5. Many of the tests performed are of a batch nature.
Notes
- Argatroban, bivalirudin, dabigatran, apixaban, or rivaroxaban anticoagulation interfere with some coagulation assays.
- When multiple tests are ordered simultaneously, a maximum of 5 blue top tubes is typically sufficient for all tests. Please contact the lab at 617-724-2969 for minimum volume requirements PRIOR to drawing more than 5 tubes.
- Clotted, underfilled or overfilled specimens give unreliable results and will be refused.
- Run at BWH. Advance notification to BWH Special Coagulation Lab. is required. Samples can only be collected Monday through Friday and must be hand-delivered to the MGH Jackson 2 special coagulation lab by 10 AM due to limited specimen stability. Specimens will be transported to BWH by courier. As long as an email has been sent to bwhspecialcoag@partners.org in advance, no additional notification or arrangement of transport is required.
Test requires 4 blue top tubes at room temperature. Alternatively, adult patients from MGH can have the labs drawn at 45 Francis street before 2 pm M-F.
